Volkswagen and Rivian to License EV Software Platform to Other Automakers
Volkswagen and Rivian are preparing to offer their jointly developed electric vehicle software and architecture to external manufacturers. The collaboration, formalized through the RV Tech joint venture, aims to address industry-wide challenges in EV development.
The platform is designed for scalability across various vehicle types and Western markets. RV Tech co-chair Wassym Bensaid emphasized the financial advantages of licensing over traditional auto manufacturing, noting significantly different margin profiles.
Initial system tests are scheduled for Q1 2026, with Audi, Volkswagen, and Scout models serving as the first test cases. This MOVE could position RV Tech as a key supplier of EV technology to the broader automotive industry.
